(More customer reviews)This unit does a great job with cooling.The problem is the amount of condensate that it produces.
I live in a hot and humid environment (North Texas) and purchased this to use in my bedroom.This unit produces literally gallons of water at night when I leave it on the cool mode.Because it is low to the ground, I have to put it up on a table with the side of it hanging off of the edge and dripping into large pots.Note that the water is not coming out of the installed drain, but just dripping off the sides on the bottom.
I'm in the process of purchasing some sort of pan and pump to place it in so I can quit dumping out large pots of water every 6-8 hours.
I give it 2 stars because the thing does cool, but I would NEVER recommend this to somebody who was going to use it on carpet.Their floors would be ruined no matter how hard they tried.

(More customer reviews)I don't know if I've got a defective unit or not but I've had the thing running for nearly three days in a room about 250 square feet and the thermostat still says 77 degrees (I've got it set for 68). This is awful. In the morning I get colder air by putting a fan in my window. This is nothing more than a very expensive fan. I'm horribly disappointed with this machine and caution others against it.

Additionally, the exhaust kit doesn't fit my standard window opening and the exhaust tubing gets super hot. So, there's a battle between the marginal coolness of the unit versus the unendurable heat of the exhaust. Lucky me.

(More customer reviews)This thing is awesome.Definitely personal though, will keep you cool as long as it's blowing directly to you (and others).Only drawback is constantly having to get ice.Also the condensation so if you use it indoors you need to put it on something you don't mind getting wet.Used it on my camping trip and boy did it come in handy.I definitely recommend this to anyone as a cheap alternative to buying an expensive a/c unit.

(More customer reviews)I want to start out by saying that I am not someone who writes reviews but this was sooo ridiculous I felt I should warn other people before they make the same mistake.I was very surprised that other people had not complained about this product.BUYER BEWARE!!!!I live in a building so I too was required to get rid of my window air conditioner which worked fine by the way. From the time I purchased this machine I had problems.The first one I had malfunctioned and did not turn off when the water bucket was full like it was suppose to and show the water bucket symbol so the water ended up overflowing on the floor.It leaked from everywhere not just out of the water tap sometimes even when the water plug was in the machine.The new one I got also gushed water perfusly, like a reservoir like a previous reviewer said is no understatement.The machine does cool off the room but it is a large hassel to have to empty out this water from the nozzle every few hours.The mini cookie pan is not enough to hold the water and I had to transfer the water to a second bucket before emptying it out which I had to watch constantly. I am too afraid to let the water build up and have what happened the first time happen again.If you are willing to empty this water ALL DAY LONG you could buy this machine, otherwise look for a better product.

There is absolutely no need for this product, it is absolutely unneccasary.It's less than a fan! A fan covers more area than this box of nothing.It is described as an air cooler that can handle approx 150 square feet.That's a lie! I called the company and they told me that depending on where you live it might not work! If you are in the market for something more than a fan this is not the product for you.The sad thing is I paid extra for shipping and I have to pay to send it back to them I'm gonna be out of 73 bucks!!!.Choose wisely.

Attempts to arrange a replacement were simple.However, an attempt to change this to a refund proved futile.The company provided no response to my request, even though I stated their product was inadequate for my needs based on physical ailements requiring air conditioning.

Haier HPAC7M Portable Air Conditioner Review

This unit is 7,000 BTUs, the smallest of any portable unit I've found.Perfect for when you need a portable unit, but don't want one powerful enough to cool an airplane hanger!(This would be a con, however, if you do need a more powerful model.)

This unit is also the least expensive portable unit I've found.A definite plus if you, like me, need several to cool all the rooms in your apartment but can't use a window unit due to bars on the window that don't pot-belly out.

The absolute best feature is self-evaporating feature that means you never have to empty a water container!I cannot stress this point enough!On my other units, I have the choice of having to constantly empty the small built-in water tank, or draining the water into a bucket that won't automatically shut off the AC when it's full (and thus risks overflowing onto the floor if I forget to empty it.)This Haier is the one I leave on overnight to keep my bedroom cool, so it's especially reassuring to know I won't wake up to a flooded apartment.

Cons:

The window kit isn't as good as the one that came with the other brand of portable AC I have.It requires more assembly and doesn't have very good directions, though I figured it out after only one mistake.(The grate will stay securely if you put the screws through the part that blocks the rest of the window and have them end in the grate, but not vice-versa.)There was also no foam included to create a secure seal in the window.I had enough left over from my other AC units, but you might have to buy some or improvise.Lastly, the part that blocks the rest of the window looks like it's supposed to be able to be screwed securely at the right width, but that doesn't work.If you need to force it to stay at the right width, you'll need to improvise.

When the end of the exhaust tube connects to the window kit, there are a couple of holes that I covered with duct tape.No biggie, easily fixed, but still a design flaw.

The last difficulty I had was with the exhaust tube.I was hoping to put it in the room where the bars are on the inside of the window instead of the outside, but the end of the tube was too big to fit.I'm going to have to use one of my other units that has a longer, narrower endpiece to fit through the bars.But unless your apartment's window bars are as odd as mine, this won't matter for you.

Overall:

I wish I'd gotten two of these and one of the other brand instead of vice-versa!And the only reason I prefer the other brand for one of my rooms is because of the aforementioned problem with fitting the exhaust tube's endpiece through the bars.

I had a repair tech out and even he said in not so many words that these units are garbage.(He couldn't do anything for me).
Just spoke to a friend who also got the 12,000 btu unit and he has the same problem, IT JUST DOESN'T DO THE JOB!

This was a very costly mistake to make.

(More customer reviews)This unit will cool your place by 10 degrees within a reasonable amount of time (e.g. 30 minutes) but you will also need to empty the drain pan (for water) every hour or two/if that long/or else your carpets will be soaking wet from the drain pan that overflows. Even when you DO empty it on time, the design of the pan makes it very easy to spill water all over the place and DON'T forget the cheasy hose! Once you pull the drain pan away from the air conditioner, it continues to leak water all over the floor through that cheasy hose.

In dealing with them I found their customer service was unresponsive and rude. They tried to pass the buck on to amazon and expected me to do their job for them by working out the processing problems with them. When I simply told them I expect the item I paid for within 10 days, they were UNABLE to do it and actually said that asking for my item was a threat. Haha! It had already been over a week since my order was placed. Don't risk your time and money, find a better seller. I wisely cancelled my order with them, save yourself the pain in the butt!

(More customer reviews)For what it's worth, a certain store with the intitials 'HD' will take back anything, even after a year.We bought this from '*ears' (if you know what I mean) and I am sure they could care less about anything 13 mos. out from the warranty period. Here's my review.

I bought 2 Royal Soverign a/c units, 12,000 BTU from Sears in 6/08.We haven't used them a whole lot. Ours are tan with a black exhaust area/top. Models ARP 3012. We paid $599 each.

We left for the day and like we always do, turn the a/c to a lower setting.A family member had stopped over and I had her check to make sure the a/c was on. She said the unit upstairs was off.I thought that was odd, as I had left it on.When she turned it on, it sounded like 100 forks in a garbage disposal.I could hear it over the phone. Apparently, due to the issue, the unit was over-heating and then turning itself off.We are lucky the house didn't burn down.

When we got home we looked into the issue and after removing the tubing from the unit, we instantly found shards of cheap black plastic.Some parts looked tube like.We removed the 14 screws on the back, cleaned up the broken plastic laying inside the unit (we thought it was part of the exhaust) and thinking everything was fine (but were were still going to look into what that tubing was for) and we put the back of the unit back on and we turned it on.More horrible breaking of plastic sounds and then more plastic was sucked into the tubing.We're thinking that the case that surrounds the fan blade and compressor is breaking up. We are sure that this will eventually happen with our 2nd unit.I would not buy a Royal Soverign brand. I'll check back and give an update when I can as we have plans to drop it off at a service location.The compressor is covered for 5 years.We will not be paying a dime to have this fixed!

The unit cools well.It is small and easy to move.

Minus:

The dehumidifier is fairly noisy and it runs when the unit is in dehumidifier mode or in air conditioner mode.The compressor (which only runs in air conditioning mode) is very quiet as is the fan.I would not use this unit in a bedroom.

Installing the exhaust hose was a bit difficult as the hose did not have any end coverings and was a tight fit into the widow and air conditioner connectors.

The window slider kit is easy to install but the height is too small.The slider is only a little bit bigger that the opening for the window exhaust adapter.With the adapter in the slider does not sit on the bottom of the window frame.In my window there is a half-inch gap between the bottom of the slider and the bottom of the window frame that has to be filled in.

BTW, the instructions for removing the unit from the packaging material and box require you to destroy both so there isn't any way to repack the unit if you need to ship it back.

Royal Sovereign ARP-4009 Portable Air Conditioner 9,000 BTU Review

(More customer reviews)We purchased the royal Sovereign ARP-4009 June 2008, used it last summer for about 3 months and didn't turn it on again until July of this year. It worked for about one week and stopped blowing cold air after that. The unit still turns on and produces air but it blows hot air. We realized that we had just missed the one-year Full Warranty period but the unit still qualifies for the LimitedFive Year Warranty which the manufacture will replace the compressor (parts only).I looked up for Royal Sovereign's website for a service contact and they showed a total of 10 in California.I called two and were told by both that they do not service Royal Sovereign anymore. I called a 3rd repair shop which is approximately 45 miles from my house. I made an appointment and brought the unit in.They informed me after a week that there was a problem with the compressor and the condenser. Even though, the parts will be supplied by Royal Sovereign but their labor would cost $250.For the price, we could almost purchase a new portable air condition.

I don't understand how the unit would stop working after one year or to be exact, 3 months of usage.I am frustrated that Royal Sovereign does not have enough service locations which made it very difficult to compare price on the repair. (More customer reviews)but not cool air.Doesn't really make much difference the temperature of the water or how much ice (yes, ice) you add, it doesn't do much to cool the air temperature.Dropped the temperature a whopping 1.3 degrees F in my first test (from 85.3 degrees to 84 degrees), and 0.9 degrees F in my second test.Don't bother.

The Air Cooler works by endothermic reaction (a reaction that consumes heat), so this evaporative Air Cooler sucks air through a wick saturated with water. As the air flows through the wick, some of the water evaporates into the air, consuming the heat that was in the air. An air stream is then blown out the front of the unit and is considerably cooler than the current room temperature! This is not an air conditioner and therefore uses much less energy.

Note: The unit works well in dry climates; not very effective in areas with high humidity as the unit utilizes water to cool.
