(More customer reviews)I recently purchased this nifty little adapter and have been very pleased with its performance and continue to find new uses for it.I first bought it for use in hotel rooms when I travel, to charge my cell phone phone thus saving me the hassle of bringing both an AC and DC charger.

I've also found that it will power ANY DC product from a standard electrical outlet.Our family has used it to charge our GPS unit and well as operate our DC TV/DVD combo from a regular outlet.Now all the DVD's we bring on road trips we can be watched on our combo unit becasue this little adapter allows us to power the unit from and AC outlet.I also like the folding blade feature - I can thow it in my glove compartment or suitcase with out it snagging on my clothes or other things.Very cool.

(More customer reviews)I had high hopes for this product. Small as it is I figured it would be sufficient for my 8 X 10 bathroom with the door closed. To give an idea of how "efficient" this unit actually is: I placed it in the downstairs bathroom with the door closed for 24 hours. It was 68 degrees F. and the humidity was 70% when I left it. I came back late the next day and there was maybe a shot-glass full of water in the reservoir. The humidity had dropped only to 65%. I honestly can't imagine a situation where this product could be worth trying. A 2X2 doll house, maybe? Amazon should not be offering a product that doesn't work. It DOES NOT extract the stated amount of water per day; not even close.

-much better than a regular traditional fan. This one does that spiral thing with the wind tunnel effect. Its more effective than a regular fan, sends the breeze further out. Its still spread out enough as well, and you can set it to oscillate anyway.
-its quiet, since its not a big fan. Even on second highest speed its fairly quiet, and the noise it does make is pleasant, not distracting. On lowest setting can barely hear it. On highest setting its slightly loud, but i could sleep with it on anyway. Its just not a big sized fan, so its not going to get too loud.
-Cheap!
-decent looking.
-lightweight and very portable.

Cons:
-controls are on top of unit, so when you go to change the speed, sometimes you push the fan down and change its angle. Wish the controls were on the base instead. No biggie tho.

Keep in mind it IS on the small side. Its probably meant for a single small bedroom. Just over a foot high and wide. Base is narrow though (about 6 inches deep) it it will fit easily on any desk.

Cheap, good looking, looks like it might last for quite a while, solid, quiet, and very functional. Whats not to like? Now I'm ready for summer.

Vornado 540B High-Velocity Personal Clip-On 2-Speed Air Circulator Review

(More customer reviews)I have an old (model 280) Vornado air circulator which I love-- big air flow and minimal noise, so I automatically gravitated towards Vornado when I needed a new compact fan that could move a lot of air.

This new fan is loud for a Vornado. Despite some cushioning material in/around the clip, it has a heavy/audible vibration even at its lower (of 2) settings, and the desk it's attached to vibrates. I intended this fan to cool a hot spot created by computers in my office, but its noise (even on low) is a bit louder than the computer fans and spinning hard drives.

Disappointingly, this fan moves less air than other compact Vornado fans, but its saving grace is the big clip and multi-directional adjustable head.It can be aimed at pretty much any angle (in roughly 20 or 30-degree steps) and the clip is strong enough to hold the fan in place upside down without slipping off its mount (ie, with the closed end of the clip towards the ground, it doesn't work lose with gravity, at least not in a short test).

Vornado fans are now made in China instead of the US. This may have affected quality/quietness versus older fans...

I give it 4 stars, instead of the 3 the fan by itself rates, for its ingenious swivel-head clip design.

I think I'll just have to get a big Vornado for the computer room and find floor space for it, after unsuccessfully trying and returning several compact Vornados because they were just too noisy.

Update 6/2009: Bummer. It burned up. Plugged it in one day and within seconds smoke was pouring out. Had to throw it out of the car and let it cool off before sending it to the electronics recycler. Scary. Amazon won't let me change the rating, but generally I would give burning electronic devices no more than one star.

(More customer reviews)I use this fan at the sales counter at my work. It keeps two of my coworkers and me very cool when we're running around all day. At first use, the fan was shaking a lot, and even though there are isolation mounts at the base, the shaking made a VERY irritating rattle noise. We took the front cover off, and found that the blades themselves were way too loose. We balled up some electrical tape and shoved it into each of the blade holders. SO SILENT NOW, even when at its highest setting. Aside from the rattling issue, this little fan was a great purchase. We've used it every day for about two months now, no problem.
